Murray & Associates, PC is the oldest established mechanical engineering firm in Southeast Alaska. The parent firm was established in Juneau in 1973 and in 1992 Douglas Murray, P.E. took control of the company and incorporated the firm in 1997.  The firm currently has two registered mechanical engineers with a total staff of seven.

Murray & Associates provides engineering services for a wide variety of clients ranging from private to government and commercial to institutional entities providing condition surveys and analyses, life cycle costing and energy analysis, construction documents, and construction services including project coordination, inspections, and commissioning of mechanical systems. Our engineering experience includes small and large buildings, traditional design-bid-build and contemporary design-build projects with heating, ventilation, plumbing, process piping, swimming pools, fueling systems, heat recovery systems, building controls, geothermal with vertical and horizontal loop fields, water process, and fire protection systems.

Staff at MAPC includes principal and project engineer Douglas Murray, P.E., project engineer Roger Smith, P.E., design engineers Leora Houtary, Robyn Robinson and Brian Smith, and support staff Keith Bleakley and Shauna Murray.  Vern Akin was the original founder and mentor of the firm and he passed away in July of 2003.  However his long time company motto “The bitterness of Poor Quality is remembered long after the sweetness of Low Price is forgotten” is a mainstay of our business standard and has always served the company very well in providing repeat and loyal business.

Murray & Associates was awarded the “Project of the Year” in 1996 for the AELP Consolidated Operations Center’s and its geothermal well field heating and cooling systems and again in 2003 jointly with Haight & Associates for the Princess Cruises Shore Tie Connection project and its electric steam generation plant and delivery system to tour cruise ships.

In addition Murray & Associates employees have also been actively involved with civic engineering organizations including CBJ Code Advisory Committee, local and statewide MATHCOUNTS middle school math competition, and various positions in ASPE - Alaska State Professional Engineering Society.
